The Modern Skies Coalition, which is comprised of more than 50 aviation industry organizations, is launching a formal public affairs campaign to put a spotlight on the need across the U.S. to hire and retain additional air traffic controllers, upgrade FAA technology and infrastructure and urge Congress to act swiftly.
“It needs to have stable, predictable funding so we can continue to modernize the system and give the American people the best, safest system in the world,” said Paul Rinaldi, A4A senior vice president of operations and safety.
“We have really old infrastructure in Americas, it hasn’t been updated in 30, 40 years,” Sec. Duffy said. “It’s a sign that we have a frail system in place and it has to be fixed.”
This would support the administration’s air traffic control hiring surge and “salary increases,” according to the document, as well as the agency’s “ongoing updates to its outdated telecommunications systems.”
“We have very obsolete equipment for air traffic controllers. The towers have horrible equipment,” Trump said during a 30 April meeting with cabinet members. “We want to put a brand new air traffic control system in.”
